There is fencing where I live but it looks a bit less impressive that it sounds imo. It's also full of rich kids. I want to take up archery instead, and squash, hoping for it to become an Olympic sport one day.

I like watching sports, it's fun. And the fact that it's the biggest international sporting event gives me a reason to become interested in sports again.
I'm pretty sure the Olympics suck majorly for a number of reasons, but now that they're here, why not just enjoy the games? Besides, these events help promote sports.

You know what, now that I had the chance to watch some TV the other day, that seems to be the case where I live, too. In fact, it's like that in all of Latin America. They aren't airing any events live in any local TV network, not even those who used to broadcast the Olympics before, they only talk about the results the next day.

Claro, a Latin American telecom company, and Marca, a Spanish sports newspaper, through their "Marca Claro" brand, got the official rights to broadcast the Olympics in the region (or the Hispanic world, I'm not sure), and they got all the events live either on YouTube or on their official site, in addition to four 24-hour cable channels that are also available in their YouTube channel.

TV networks are struggling, it seems. But I find it weird that in the US you can only watch the Games on NBC. Here's a list of all the official broadcasters:
