 No.7986

In April I intend to run a turn-based, text-based simulation of the world of 1945 in which participants join as join as countries, parties, guerrillas, individuals, or most any other position they can think of.

Here's a link to the thread where people can join and find the rules on how to play: http://eregime.org/index.php?showtopic=17895

A bunch of participants already come from this site so I figure I'd mention the game here. If there's any questions, feel free to ask.

The website has a Discord, but the simulation itself isn't played on it. It's played on the forum.

What happens if you're playing a country and you switch ideology? Are you still in control or do you have to keep to the same government to keep playing?

It depends on the country and the ideology in question. Like I wouldn't mind keeping the same player as the Netherlands no matter whether a liberal or a conservative party is in power, but if the Communist Party somehow came to power then that'd entail the existing player losing power (although they could continue playing as a party in opposition.)

When it comes to a major country like the US or UK though, a new party coming to power means a new player, with the existing player being able to play as whatever party in opposition.

Sounds fun. Will probably join

Will this game end quickly because of nukes? Also, are there any idiots planning on being the superpowers?

Nukes in 1945 won't be powerful enough to turn the world into an apocalyptic wasteland, so no.

All the persons reserved as superpowers seem pretty competent (although we have an opening for Chiang Kai-shek.)

They aren't now either. Separate AM from FM, please.

Yeah I get that "nuke" can refer to different things or be used interchangeably. Just saying, all the debated consequences of nuclear war discussed during the 1950s-80s (Mutually Assured Destruction, Nuclear Winter, radiation all over the place, etc.) clearly can't happen with the technology available in the late 1940s, so there wouldn't really be a basis for me to say "okay guys I'm not simulating something approximating a post-apocalyptic world, game over."

Game is expected to start later this month.
