Persona 5 is the game that made me realize that I don't like silent protagonists very much. Should have just made Makoto the protagonist with all the screen time she gets.Also the game's revolutionary message only amounts to "fuck boomers", which is fine if you're into that sort of thing.

Can someone help me decide what Persona game to play after finishing 5? They're too many versions of these games.Apparently all the versions of Persona 3 on the PS2 don't have controllable party members, and the PSP versions lose out in presentation. So the best way to play this is on an PS2 emulator with a controllable party member mod, correct?And what about Persona 4 PS2 vs Persona 4 Golden? Which version is superior?

Kinda necroing, but only finished it a few weeks ago after having forgotten why I dropped it for a full year. Holy shit this game annoyed the fuck out of me.
Nothing but empty anarcho-succdem platitude after empty platitude, only to fight not one but two bosses in a row we never really get to know or give a fuck about other than "vaguely right-wing boomer bad" and ctrl+v malevolent god. I'd already dropped it for about a year before (got it on release in 2017 lmao) because I could already sense that things were going to shit by the time I advanced through the Okumura castle. What a fucking fumble.
At least Persona 4 knew to stay in its lane as a comfy detective story mixed with some simple but effective personal development shit. Last time I put this much time into a (J)RPG, Catherine told an infinitely better and more mature (by nip standards) story in about a fifth of the time.

Yeah, P5 is a mess and the only thing it particularly succeeds in is presentation. Pretty much all the other games in the series are better (I never got that into Revelations) to say nothing of the rest of the franchise.
I'll second/third/fourth people just saying "play SMT", though with the slight caveat that the games aren't as character driven as Persona and certainly don't have any fun high school anime shenanigans. What they do have is excellent atmosphere and gameplay. 2 is my personal favorite but all of mainline is worth it except maybe Apocalypse which I never got to.
